Walsall Kidney Treatment Centre

Diaverum approached Sandycroft Projects to act as their build partner on this project after they secured the contract to provide renal dialysis care for patients in the Walsall area for University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust.  The project required the conversion of existing offices to create a state of the art 32 bed renal dialysis unit.  Sandycroft were employed under a negotiated design and build contract and, working with our design team, developed the initial proposals to create a scheme that complied with the latest standards in healthcare design. Sandycroft were instructed to proceed with the works in January and the works were fast tracked in order for the centre to be opened just 24 weeks later. The programme was so tight that construction work started simultaneously with the commencement of detailed design.  Collaborative working with all parties concerned in the development of the unit was therefore key to the ultimately success.

Conclusion

Sandycroft Projects have delivered numerous similar schemes in the healthcare sector, particularly in our work with renal dialysis providers over the past 15 years or so and at no stage did we ever feel that the deadline was not achievable.  By working collaboratively with all concerned, Sandycroft and our design team have delivered a scheme that meets the requirements of the initial brief in an extremely tight timescale without compromising the quality of the end product.  Sandycroft have since been commended by Diaverum, UHB and the most importantly the dialysis patients.
