Our Client won this tender from the Local NHS Trust, and asked us and our design team to partner with them in delivering the clinic. Our client is responsible for providing the facility and maintaining the clinic, while the Trust will provide all staff and treat the patients. As such, the trust have been closely involved with the project specification from the outset, particularly in regard to infection control, provision for the disabled, and the mechanical & electrical design, which, following the Covid 19 epidemic places new emphasis on ventilation and air flow.
The premises selected was a new build industrial unit in Wigston, South Leicester, and our works included the alterations and complete fit-out, in order to provide a modern healthcare facility.
Challenges we faced were:
- Compliance with the new building regulations particularly in relation to Mechanical & Electrical installations.
- Working closely with the trust to design a bespoke ventilation system fully compliant with HTM 03-01 without derogations.
- Installing structural support to the new roof, in order to install new PV cells across the majority of the surface.
- Delays in legal agreements meant the new electrical connection could not be completed in line with the contract programme, works had to be suspended and the end date moved.
